Inspiration for DIY

5 Oct

I love this Reem Acra dress Heather Graham wore to a dinner party for the Zurich Film Festival.  Not only is the color beautiful but I love that the slit in the front is covered with lace.  It got me thinking . . .  Is there a skirt I’m just not wearing any more and could cut a slit then sew lace under?  This might be a weekend project.

Cinch it in

Colder weather brings bigger clothing  so stock up on some belts to prove to the word you still have a shape under all those layers.   Today I have for you designer belts from Neiman Marcus and more affordable options available at Kohl’s.  Check your wardrobe and make sure your belts are in good shape, they still fit, and you have a variety of wide and skinny.  Here are some belts I like that maybe you can add to your closet to create new looks or add polish  to outfits that need that little extra.

How to mix prints

1 Oct

Mixing prints can be challenging and requires a little trial and error, but if you follow some guidelines it is a great way to create an interesting look.  On top of that, you’re going to expand your current wardrobe options considerably.  I love mixing prints to give my outfit a lot more personality, interest, and charm.  You’ll look a bit more fashion forward and taking these risks are what fashion is all about.   These are guidelines that will help, but wear what you think looks good.  If you feel confident in what you are wearing then rock it.

1)  Make sure at least one color is in both pieces you pair.

2) Choose a small-scale pattern to mix with a large-scale pattern. Two large patterns can be tricky to pull off especially if you are petite.

3)  An easy place to start that looks incredibly chic is pairing stripes with a floral pattern

4) Animal prints can go with just about anything, even other animal prints.

5) Add textures to the mix as well-  wear a tweed skirt with a silk stripe top.

6) Have fun with it – but if you are timid, accessories are a good place to start.
