New York Fashion Week Recap- part 2

27 Feb

To continue with my recap of New York Fashion week here are some more trends. The point of doing this now is for you to go to the stores and grab any of these trends on sale that may be continuing from Fall 2011.

Usually floral is left to Spring, but not in this case. Floral patterns were in so many shows. Some where very light and feminine and some were darker and on thicker more structured pieces. Either way it is nice to see the warm weather feeling mixed into a fall wardrobe. If you look some of these piece can really be year round. Take the look from Tracy Reese. Wear it with sandals in the summer and layer over tights for the winter.

Another trend like the year round floral print is light weight flowy fabric. Nearly all these looks can be worn year round. Now I don’t know if designers are realizing that we need more versatility, but I’m loving that I don’t have to change out my closet as much as I used to. All it takes is some tights, boots, and thick coat and your summer dresses are ready for fall.

With all these feminine looks I didn’t want you to think the designers forgot about adding some edge. They did this by showing skin – and I mean a lot of skin by using sheer cutouts, peek-a-boos, and just plain sheer clothes will take any look to the next level. Some of the silhouettes were conservative, but with sheer fabric there is sex appeal. I definitely own some sheer pieces and I love layering them over bright colors or kept simple and layered over black or white. Look for sheer and cutouts this summer and fall.

New York Fashion Week Recap- Part 1

24 Feb

So I haven’t posted anything the last couple of days because I was reviewing the New York shows. It is a little strange to be absorbed in to a world of leather and furs when it is over 70 degrees here in LA, but it is exciting to see the trends that will continue and those that will end with the changing of seasons. One thing is for sure . . . there are a lot of options. I’ve decided to narrow down these options and spot the common threads that ran throughout the week. Case in point – fur (hopefully you will choose faux fur)! You can’t be shocked to find fur in a winter collection, but it showed up in a ton of shows in a variety of ways and a variety of colors.

Another obvious, but new obsessions for this coming will is leather. I am in love with all the leather trims, shoulders, sleeves, pants, skirts, top, and basically anything to do with leather for the fall. You are going to find it in the most lady like ensembles and don’t be afraid to go green or burgundy. My favorite way to wear leather is to keep the garment very conservative and prim or else you may end up more street-walker than fashionista. I’m keeping my eye out for anything leather or leatherette that may go on sale from this past winter. It is going to be everywhere in 2012.

Whitney Houston’s style

13 Feb

In honor of one of the best voices that will ever grace this planet I wanted to share some of Whitney Houston’s fashion moments.  There are some images that I remember from my childhood of her CD/tape covers, movies or TV appearances.  I remember thinking she was so pretty and her voice was the soundtrack to many of our lives.  Here are a few the images I think of when I think of Whitney . . .
